the monday snapshot – Jen

Jen from The Chronicles of Violetta Margarita is going to open up the week for us with her contribution to the The Monday Snapshot – an evolution of the MMM feature, meant to bring the PAIL blogroll to life by giving its members a chance to feature themselves and make new connections.

Hi everyone!
I’m excited to be here today guest hosting PAIL’s Monday snapshot. Although, when I first heard it was my turn, I panicked. We’ve had a bit of a fussy week over here, dealing with a three month growth spurt or something, and the one interesting thing we did (attended a baby friendly showing of Les Mis…ah, brought me right back to my junior high obsession) was not easy to capture in an iPhone photo. I know. I tried.
But then on Saturday, Luigi and I accompanied Hubby to one of our favorite places…H.ome Depot! We needed some supplies for our latest project, the first phase in upgrading our “finished” basement into a more toddler friendly play room. Yes, I realize Luigi is only three months old, but this project is going to take awhile! And by the time he is toddling around, we are going to need more play space in our little house, for sure.

I love this picture because of the goofy look on Luigi’s face, and because it symbolizes to me a lifetime of helping His daddy with projects around the house. I hope he will learn to be as handy as his dad. I also love the subliminal message I captured, completely accidentally, I swear!
Anyway, I won’t bog this down with details about our project, but I do plan to share more about it over at the Chronicles, so stay tuned for more about our basement upgrade. Happy Monday!

Now, get to know a little more about Jen with her answers to the Monday Snapshot “5 Questions”:

1) How long have you been blogging and how did you get started?

I started my blog nearly two years ago, in Jan 2011 after attending my first RESOLVE meeting and talking to a couple who had used blogging as an outlet. My best friend had blogged for a long time about her adoption experience and I knew it had been a great source of support for her, so I decided to give it a go, despite the fact that I barely understood the world of blogging, and hadn’t even read any. A few days after that meeting, my reader was full and my blog was born.

2) Tell us a little about your ALI journey and your family (3-4 sentences):

We started ttc a few months after our first wedding anniversary in the summer of 2009. By early 2010, I had my only natural chemical, and by the sumer of 2010, we were in the midst of a run of six IUIs. 2011 brought two failed IVF cycles. The third time was the charm in early 2012, and “Luigi” was born this year on October 9. My husband is about to turn 44, and I am 38 in the spring, so expanding our family beyond three remains a question of desire and ability at this point.

3) What makes you unique in the blogging world? (e.g. special talent, rare diagnosis, life experience)?

I think my design and creativity add to my blogging. I try to share my creativity when I can find the time, and hope to do more of that in the future. I would also say that being a veteran of 6 IUIs and 3 IVFs puts me in somewhat of an expert category about the trials and tribulations of ART. Certainly not an expertise I would have asked for, but true none the less.

4) One word to describe yourself:

designer

5) What blog or website (IF or not) would you recommend to others? Why?

The blog I probably read the most, outside of the IF world is: http://www.younghouselove.com/

If you don’t know it, it’s written by a 30-something couple who are constantly DIYing around their house. They have a lot of great ideas, and inspire me to cultivate my creative mojo. I’m also just slightly jealous that they have managed to turn blogging, designing, decorating, and crafting into a full time job. A job like that is a dream of mine. Though, I suppose I need to blog a bit more frequently if I’m to make that happen! Maybe when Luigi takes more regularly predictable naps!

  2. Love that picture, what a little cutie. We took the first steps to turning our finished basement into a playroom too this weekend. It will be SOO nice to have all the toys out of our living room! Here is my contribution this week: http://blawndesblawg.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-monday-snapshot-brrr-edition.html

  4. Love the picture and I love that you have STUD in the background…too funny! 🙂
When I was pregnant and nauseous the only place that made me feel better was the wood section of Home Depot. I freelance, and I used to joke that I was going to bring my computer and phone over there, sit on a pile of wood and set up shop. 🙂

My hubby and I have had SO many “Dates” at Home Depot! In fact, I think we were there on our third real date- that’s when I knew it was true love! Here’s my post http://emskyrooney.blogspot.com/2013/01/monday-snapshot-baby-blues.html

  7. What a sweet face! Love his eyes! I think I have PTSD about home improvement b/c my husband installed hardwoods in 3 bedrooms during our surro’s pregnancy w/ my son. It was supposed to take only a few weeks he assured me; 6 months later the floors were finished a few weeks before he was born. Never again!

  8. Haha! He looks so intense…taking in all the nuts and bolts as it were!

  9. What a cutie!! haha love the stud above his head.. perfect. I am sure he is going to LOVE his new playroom!!! 🙂
