the monday snapshot – Christina

Christina of According to C is going to open up the week for us with her contribution to the The Monday Snapshot – an evolution of the MMM feature, meant to bring the PAIL blogroll to life by giving its members a chance to feature themselves and make new connections.

I used to want six kids.

Six. Kids.

Not quite in the Duggar-Sphere, but not exactly the 2.5 that we average here in North America.

Yup, six it was until three things happened:

One, I turned 30, single and childless. It wasn’t until I was 33 that I met my husband and who knew when we would have children?(turns out six months later…see point two)

Two, I had a missed miscarriage six months into our relationship. The pregnancy was unexpected, but we were thrilled! Losing that baby  definitely put a damper on the excitement of having children. The ‘what ifs’ scrambled my brain once we decided to try again.

And three, I didn’t really enjoy being pregnant! I overcame a lot of guilt to admit that.  But it’s true. Not just the emotional side of things, worrying about losing our baby again but also the physical discomfort.  I had some pretty bad ligament pain in my legs from about 17 weeks on. It didn’t ease up until I delivered our daughter, Molly last August.

I seriously considered stopping there.  Why risk losing another baby and having a not so fun pregnancy again? And we’ve been extremely lucky that Molly is an exceptionally easy baby. But growing up with a sibling was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I want my daughter to experience that.

Two kids it is.

So here we are, with Molly 11 months today and we’re about to jump into trying for #2. Eek!

Welcome to our adventure!

Now, get to know a little more about Christina with her answers to the Monday Snapshot “5 Questions”:

1) How long have you been blogging and how did you get started?

I started my blog September 2009. It was initially a place for me to explore the world of dating and men, as I was single at the time. I had some crazy experiences! Now that I’m married and we have a beautiful baby girl, my blog has transitioned into a space for me to share how I’m creating a home for our family.

2) Tell us a little about your ALI journey and your family (3-4 sentences):

Six months after I met my husband, we found out we were pregnant. It was a complete surprise, but by that point we knew that we wanted to spend our lives with each other. But a couple of weeks later, after a very minor spotting incident, an ultrasound showed our baby had no heart beat. A few days after that, there was no evidence of the baby at all. We were devastated. I took some time to grieve and after a few months, we decided to start trying again. For real this time. On November 25, 2011, my husband surprised me with a magical proposal. The very next day we found out we were pregnant. We were married a few months later and last August our daughter Molly was born.

3) What makes you unique in the blogging world? (e.g. special talent, rare diagnosis, life experience)?

I spent a lot of my twenties afraid to put myself out there and live. As a result, I found myself alone and single at 30. That wasn’t the life I wanted for myself. So I faced up to my fears and challenged myself to move forward. There were so many times when I could have given up, whether with dating or after my miscarriage. But I refused to let my fears control me and it’s taken me to the place I’ve always wanted to be. My blog follows that path, from my miserable single days to now, where happiness surrounds me. I think it’s a unique journey to follow.

4) One word to describe yourself:

5) What blog or website (IF or not) would you recommend to others? Why?

For smart, funny writing, check out People I Want to Punch in the Throat. It’s a great escape!
